Banks and Technology Lead US Stocks Lower in Midday Trading

Banks led U.S. stocks lower in midday trading Tuesday as investors returned from the Labor Day holiday weekend and weighed the growing tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. Technology stocks, which have been the biggest gainer this year, were also down sharply. Energy companies bucked the broader market slide as the price of crude oil headed higher.
